Adult Autism Assessment in Cork
Neuro-affirmative, person centred, adult autism assessments led by qualified Clinical Psychologists in Cork.
Our Approach
Assessments are led by a Clinical Psychologist with experience in adult autism, including late identified and high masking presentations.
We work within a neuroaffirmative framework, meaning we recognise autism as a difference rather than a deficit. Our assessments are strengths focused while also clearly identifying areas where support or accommodation may be helpful.
Our assessment follows both DSM-5 and ICD-11 criteria and are accepted by the NHS and HSE.

What happens during an autism assessment?
Step 1
Pre-assessment Questionnaires
We will ask you to complete a set of intake forms. These questionnaires help us better understand you and your needs. Additional Information forms are also available for partners, family members, or close others. These are not required but may be helpful.
Step 2
Assessment Appointment
We will meet for around 3-4 sessions over 4-6 weeks to complete the assessment. Appointments will be held over video call and last 60-90 minutes each. We will work through the assessment together, at your pace.
Step 3
Feedback Session and Report
We will then meet for a final time to talk through the assessment and our joint understanding of you and your experiences. This will be a space to ask questions, to clarify anything covered, and to discuss next steps. Following this you will be sent the summary report and further letters for your GP or workplace if required.
While the assessment process can be demanding, we strive to ensure that our sessions are as relaxed and comfortable as possible. You are free to move around or switch off your camera during our calls and we are happy to accommodate your communication or engagement needs.
Frequently asked questions
How do I know if an adult autism assessment is right for me?
A number of adults who work with our service have a clear understanding of the assessment they require. For many adults however, it can be unclear what the “problem”, “block”, or “difference” is that may be causing the distress or difficulty in their life. This means that often our assessment and the psychometric tools we use will be tailored to you and your needs.
We often recommend that adults start with a consultation, after which we can advise on next steps and specific assessment pathways. Adults at this stage will often decide to pursue a specific assessment, with the price of the consultation deducted from the final assessment price. Consultation sessions cost €270.
What happens during an adult autism assessment?
An adult autism assessment usually takes place over three to four sessions and is led by a Clinical Psychologist. It involves in depth clinical interviews to build a broad understanding of your developmental history, current experiences, strengths, and support needs.
Our assessment is guided by the Autism Diagnostic Interview – Revised (ADI–R) and seeks to develop an understanding of your experience through conversation across multiple sessions, rather than a single appointment.
The assessment concludes with a feedback session and a written psychological report.
How long does an adult autism assessment take?
While the length of an assessment can vary, we aim to complete the assessment process within 4-6 weeks.
Do I need a referral from my GP?
No. You can self-refer and do not need a GP referral to access an adult autism assessment in Cork.
How long is the waiting list?
Our current wait time is two weeks from first contact to initial session.
